SCREAMERS. Shock absorbing slings designed to reduce peak loads in any climbing system. As multi-functional energy absorbing devices, YATES Screamers can provide added protection in climbing and rescue situations. Screamers not only absorb energy directly because of the stitch ripping effect, they also allow your rope to absorb more energy from the fall by increasing the time interval of the fall. Screamers can reduce shock loading in any rescue system. Yates has determined that the most effective activation for a standard screamer to be >2kN for climbing related situations

Technical Info

Standard Screamer

The standard SCREAMER can effectively reduce peak loads by 3-4kN in a climbing system. Original Screamers were first developed by YATES ten years ago, and have since developed several variations. Screamers were originally designed for use on less than ideal climbing protection such as small nuts, old 1/4" bolts, snow anchors or marginal protection.

Activation: >2kN. Reduction in system peak loading 3-4kN
Runner Strength: 26kN.

Ice-Screams

ICE-SCREAMS offer the same properties as the Standard Screamer with the addition of a convenient tie-off mechanism for ice screws

Activation: >2kN. Reduction in system peak loading 3-4kN.
Runner Strength: 26kN.

Scream Aid

The force needed for activation of a SCREAM-AID is >1.5kN, they can absorb 1.5-2kN and therefore makes them useful for only the most marginal placements.

Activation :> 1.5kN. Reduction in system peak loading 1.5-2kN. Runner Strength: 7kN. "Use on extremely marginal aid placements only"

Shorty Screamer

The new SHORTY Screamer offers the exact same properties as the standard Screamer in a more compactly packaged unit.

Activation: >2kN. Reduction in system peak loading 3-4kN. Runner Strength: 26kN.

Zipper Screamer

The new ZIPPER Screamer is designed for long falls with high fall factors. These types of falls occur usually within the first two or three protection placements that are run out. Ice climbing is a good example where the Zipper is exceptionally effective when used on the first few placements.
Zippers can effectively reduce peak loads by 6-8kn in any climbing system.

Activation: >2kN. Reduction in system peak loading 4-8kN. Runner Strength: 26kN.

Aluminium Heads

Intended for vertical cracks, Aluminium Heads (or Aluminum Heads if you're a Yank) are designed to be quick to bash in and so are particularly useful in awkward situations or when you are really tired, but are best suited to good placements as their holding power is not as good as Copper Heads.

Approximate head measurements:

Size 1: 2cm x 1cm, 10g
Size 2: 2cm x 1.2cm, 26g
Size 3: 2cm x 1.4cm, 28g
Size 4: 3cm x 1.7cm, 34g

Copper Double Heads

Intended for vertical cracks, Double Copper Heads are harder to bash into a seam but give greater holding power than Aluminium Heads. They therefore tend to be used in shallower more tenuous placements, this double version being ideal for smears that are long and narrow

Approximate head measurements:

Size 1: 2.6cm x 0.8cm, 22g
Size 2: 3.2cm x 1.2cm, 38g

Copper Heads

Intended for vertical cracks, Copper Heads are harder to bash into a seam but give greater holding power than Aluminium Heads. They therefore tend to be used in shallower more tenuous placements.

Approximate head measurements:

Size 1: 1.3cm x 0.8cm, 14g
Size 2: 1.6cm x 1.2cm, 28g

Rivet Hangers

Many aid climbs, particularly in Yosemite, have sections aided on rivets (very short small bolts without hangers) that require a loop of something to utilise them. These Rivet Hangers are designed to do just that and feature a sliding central copper section that can be cinched up to hold the rivet and sits firmly once weight is applied to it.

Approximate sizes:

Size 1: loop 8cm long, cable 1mm diameter, 8g
Size 2: loop 9cm long, cable 2mm diameter, 14g

Round Heads

Round Heads (or Circle Heads) are designed for pasting into horizontal cracks. The circular cabled distributes the load equally on either side of the placement.

Approximate head measurements:

Size 1: 1.3cm x 0.8cm, 8g
Size 2: 1.6cm x 1.2cm, 14g
